Rangers: Time to Say Goodbye to Elvis Andrus?

Rangers: Time to Say Goodbye to Elvis Andrus?

Texas Rangers should start to look at making trades that could improve their lineup and defense. One team to look into is the Cincinnati Reds who are in dire need of a shortstop. If you look closer at the Rangers roster, they have one they could part ways with while saving some money.

The Reds are getting desperate after losing out to some strong players in free agency. Some big name shortstops could be made available with the trade market including Trevor Story. However, Story have a high asking price. However, we don’t know yet if the Texas Rangers are looking to dump Elvis Andrus or Rougned Odor, possibly both.

Odor and Andrus have slumped over the last few years and haven’t been high-caliber starters since the Rangers playoff runs in 2015 and 2016. The pair posted negative WARs in 2020, signaling that it might be time to send them packing.

Shipping Andrus off to Cincinnati could be good for him and it’s a serious hitter-friendly Great American Ballpaprk. Andrus has two years left on his eight-year contract, which he signed back in 2014.

Rangers could possibly trade Andrus and some serious cash to Cinci for a lower ranked Reds prospect such as Jared Solomon. This deal would give the Reds a shortstop who’s looking to have a bounce-back campaign with a change of scenery. The Rangers would be able to off-load some of Andrus’ contract and making some room for younger players.
