So I’m sure most of our readers here at Talkin Texas Rangers are super excited that baseball is back. Teams are now frantically trading and signing players to fill their spring training rosters. As of now, it looks like the Texas Rangers are done with the big-name signings and found who they wanted to fill out their camp roster.
Eli White is starting to make waves at Rangers camp
As camp is starting to heat up in Surprise, Arizona for the Rangers, one name is starting to get around the clubhouse for a most improved player and that’s Eli White. It seems like the Rangers’ ability to find hidden gems in trades has paid off again.
Chris Halicke, Texas Rangers SI reporter, said in a recent article that Rangers coaches including manager Chris Woodward didn’t take long to point him out as most improved so far at camp. Woody went as far as to say that he’s got the most potential in the organization if he finds his swing.
What does Eli White’s potential emergence mean for Texas Rangers fans?
Sometimes players really hunker down during the offseason and look at what they need to improve on and work on it. What’s this means for Rangers fans is that they might not have to look for another outfielder who can hit the ball.
Still not on the 40 man roster
For his first full season with the Rangers, Eli White’s batting average was .177 and had 35 hits. The way he’s currently hitting at camp, I expect him to at least double the hits and possibly his RBI’s as well.
Currently Eli White is not on the 40 man roster as it took an injury to Ronald Guzman for him to be called up last season. With the start he is having at camp right now, Rangers could be forced to add him to the Opening Day roster this season.
I don’t think he will end up being Joey Gallo 2.0 but it will be a great asset to have another reliable hitter in the Rangers starting lineup.
His improvement could also be due to the new Kiner-Falefa like a beard that he grew out during the offseason. Maybe that could be a good luck charm that helps from throughout the regular season.
Conclusion
As I wrap up this article, wouldn’t it be awesome that the Texas Rangers finessed the Athletics again in a trade. We already did when we got Jonah Heim and Dane Acker in the Elvis Andrus trade a season ago.
It seems like Eli White could be another minor league gem that the Rangers secured in a trade if his hitting improves in the 2021 season.
