It’s baseball time in Texas and the Rangers mean it!
After filling their seats with cardboard fans in the 2020 season, Globe Life Field will open its doors to full capacity for their final two exhibition games and on Opening Day, April 5 vs. Toronto.
Globe Life Field has an occupancy of 40,518.
Despite hosting the 2020 World Series this past fall, the Texas Rangers want to show off their new, shiny ballpark to its own fans and they are getting their wish.
Just a little over a week ago, Texas Governor Greg Abbott granted access for businesses to return to full capacity and lifted the mask mandate. With this news, the Rangers were obviously encouraged by the Governor’s word to allow fans back in full force.
Fans will be able to come out in full force for the Texas Rangers’ home opener.
According to the updated health and safety protocols of the Texas Rangers:
- Fans are still expected to wear masks unless they are eating or drinking.
- Certain sections will be marked off as “social-distancing sections” that provide gaps between ticketed seats, but this is not expected to be implemented on opening day.
- No bags are permitted except for medical reasons.
- Social Distancing will be enforced in concession lines and retail locations.
- Hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the ballpark.
- No player autographs.
Rangers still following health and safety protocols
Depending on the weather, I would anticipate the roof to be open for most of these games and especially on opening day.
So far, Texas becomes the first professional team to announce full capacity at their games. The neighboring baseball team in Houston still plans to have limited fans allowed at Minute Maid Park. I wonder if the Rangers decision makes a difference for the Astros, though.
The Dallas Maverick and Dallas Stars, who share American Airlines Center, have already made it clear that the Governor’s decision will not affect their limited attendance that has been established.
