Rangers Definitely Should Pursue Clayton Kershaw in 2022

Trevor Story coming to Texas is on every fan’s wish list, but is there another name that could be even better. I believe so. If the Texas Rangers want to go deeper in the playoffs, they should bring in Story and World Series champion Clayton Kershaw.

Clayton Kershaw to the Rangers might just be a pipe dream

Yes this is only a pipe dream, but if the Texas Rangers have the money, this would definitely be a worthy investment. A Kershaw-Rangers homecoming could make sense. After this season, the Texas Rangers are losing Jordan Lyles and would definitely have a hole to fill in the rotation. Lyles is not a franchise-changing pitcher. Truth is, he’s only had one good half season over the course of his 10 years in the league.

Clayton Kershaw would be a massive upgrade over Lyles. For the 2021 season, the Texas Rangers projected starting rotation features no left-handers. Heading into Spring Training, the rotation includes Kyle Gibson, Lyles, Dane Dunning, Kohei Arihara and Mike Foltynewicz. Clayton Kershaw could fit in between the rotation of right-handers.

Dodgers have plenty of rising talent to replace Kershaw

The Dodgers could afford to part ways with Kershaw as they have a lot of rising talent coming up in the rotation. Take a look at Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, Josiah Gray. You can’t forget about David Price, Walker Buehler and recently-signed Trevor Bauer.

Clayton Kershaw is a future Hall of Famer starting pitcher and still remains productive in his early-30s. During the shortened season of 2020, Kershaw went 6-2 with a 2.16 ERA over 58.1 innings. Baseball Reference predicts Kershaw will have another strong showing in 2021, going 12-6 with a 3.29 ERA over 156 innings.

The Texas Rangers could bring in Trevor Story to bolster the offense and Clayton Kershaw to solidify the pitching rotation. Story and Kershaw could be the new face of the Rangers franchise and help bring the team back to postseason glory.
